Assault Amphibian Vehicles from
Marine Forces Unitas make their way through the desert in Cifuncho,
Chile, Sept. 29, during a bilateral exercise with the Chilean Marine
Corps, as part of the amphibious phase of Unitas 43-02. During the
course of the bilat exercise, which ran from Sept. 27-30, U.S. and
Chilean Marines trained aboard each other's naval vessels including the
USS Portland (LSD-37), and the Chilean tank landing ship the Valdivia.
From both ships, the two nations launched and amphibious assault and
then conducted offensive and defensive operations ashore. USMC
