For Marines and Sailors just arriving at Camp Lejeune, Consolidated Public Affairs has gathered a few useful bits of information to assist you in a smooth duty station change to the Jacksonville area. This section covers lodging, vehicle, pet and weapons registration household goods moving and information for geographical bachelors.
There are five bachelor officer quarters located around the Camp Lejeune/New River complex: Paradise Point, Camp Geiger, MCAS New River, Courthouse Bay and Camp Johnson. For information call 451-2146 or 451-1385.
The newly renovated Hospitality Inn is available as a home away from home for those new to the area. The Inn has 90 rooms with two double beds, kitchenette, TV, VCR, cable, laundry facilities on the premises and other nice amenities like irons and coffee pots. The Inn is open 24 hours a day. Sorry, no pets allowed.

Applications for assignment to Marine Corps Military Housing (DD Form 1746) should be completed and mailed, or hand carried to the Military Housing Office as soon as a military sponsor knows of an upcoming move to this area, or within 30 calendar days of reporting for duty. The Military Housing Office is located at 43 Inchon Street, Tarawa Terrace, NC 28543. A satellite office is located at the Camp Lejeune Reception Center, 60 Molly Pitcher Road, Camp Lejeune, NC 28542.
The Military Housing Office maintains 4,348 housing units aboard Camp Lejeune and neighboring New River. Many homes have recently been demolished and rebuilt. Some homes have been renovated, and others are either in progress or programmed for renovation. All housing units offer central air conditioning and heating.
Military sponsors must report to the Military Housing Office prior to renting, leasing or purchasing a home off base. In addition to information on military housing, the Military Housing Office maintains listings of available off-base rentals and sales as well as "non-approved" listings. The office also provides listings of public and private schools, local churches and maps of the area. A visit to the Military Housing Office could save dollars.
Junior enlisted are eligible for two bedroom housing in Midway Park, two, three and four bedroom housing in Tarawa Terrace and also three and four bedroom housing in Watkins Village.
NCOs are eligible for two, three or four bedroom housing in Tarawa Terrace, and three or four bedroom townhouses in Watkins Village.
SNCOs are eligible for three or four bedroom housing in Berkeley Manor or New River and four bedroom townhouses in Watkins Village.
Company grade, field grade and senior officers are eligible for assignment to housing at MCB, Camp Lejeune or New River.
Wait times for assignment to military housing vary from zero to twelve months.

The Camp Lejeune Dependents Schools (CLDS) are operated by the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DoD DDESS). All funding and support is provided by DoD DDESS. A locally elected School Board participates in the development of policies. CLDS policy is administered by the central office administration. There are five elementary schools, a middle school, and a senior high school. Approximately 500 full-time staff including 300 certified professional personnel are employed by the school system. All motorized vehicles operated aboard Camp Lejeune must be registered with the Vehicle Registration Section of the Provost Marshal's Office.
Permanent decals are not issued on weekends, holidays, or during extremely cold weather. New River Marines need to register their vehicles at Bldg. AS-211 aboard the Air Station.
The following documents are required to obtain a temporary pass:
- Valid state operator’s license
- Valid state registration for the vehicle
- Proof of insurance
The following documents are required to obtain a permanent decal:
- Valid armed forces identification card
- Permanent valid state operator’s license
- Permanent valid state registration for the vehicle
- Declaration page (if vehicle is registered out of state) showing proof of the minimum motor vehicle liability insurance required by the state of North Carolina—bodily injury $30,000/$60,000 property damage $25,000
- Service members under 26 years of age must present evidence of having completed the defensive driver course offered here or at another Marine Corps Base
- Valid motor vehicle inspection sticker for vehicles registered in North Carolina
Additionally, the following information is required at all times:
Valid armed forces identification card

Driver’s Improvement Course Card for servicemembers under 26
Marines and sailors reporting TAD to Camp Lejeune should present a copy of their orders at Bldg. 60 Molly Pitcher Rd. to obtain a temporary pass. The pass will be issued for the length of TAD.
Motorcycle operators must meet the same requirements as automobiles. In addition, they must have in their possession an endorsed motorcycle license from their home state or from the state of North Carolina. Attendance and Certificate of Completion/Motorcycle Safety Card from a Motorcycle Safety Foundation class is mandatory for all operators, regardless of age.
Dogs, cats, tropical fish, turtles, guinea pigs, white mice, gerbils and caged birds are the only pets authorized in family housing. Other pets must be specifically authorized in writing by the Commanding General, Marine Corps Base. Cats and dogs must be registered with the Base Veterinary Office (910) 450-1607.
A wide variety of dogs and cats available for adoption can be found at the animal shelter located on Parachute Tower Road. For information call 451-2695.

All privately owned firearms on base must be registered with the Base Provost Marshal, Room #2, Bldg. 3 and Bldg. AS211 at the Air Station. Only those persons living in base housing (family quarters) may maintain their firearms in their quarters. BEQ and BOQ residents must store their weapons in a unit armory. The brand name, model number, serial number, location of, caliber, barrel length, action and proof of ownership are required for registration. For more information call 451-2455.
In accordance with CMC directives, there are currently no provisions aboard Camp Lejeune to provide geographic bachelors with temporary or permanent quarters. All service members with dependents living in another geographic location are reminded to take this into consideration when arriving.
